Anushka Nair

Anushka Nair - 2019 Student Recipient

Anushka is a senior at LOHS and carries an impressive 4.0 GPA. She was selected because of her remarkable advocacy for women and minorities through the organization she founded, Enough is Enough, her position as the co-chair of the Diversity and Equity Inclusion Committee at LOHS, and the Speech and Debate team. Anushka has become a powerful voice and educator about explicit bias and how to eradicate it from our schools. In addition to her advocacy and empowerment work, she also coaches an all-girls robotics team and has led summer camps for underprivileged youth in programming and coding skills. She was also selected as a TEDx Youth PDX speaker!

Pauline Petersen

Pauline Petersen - 2019 Student Recipient

Pauline is a freshman at LHS. Her commitment to “service above self” is evident through her commitment to creating service opportunities that benefit the local community. In junior high, she started an Interact Club, recruiting the principal, an advisor, and all of the starting members. She is a born leader, demonstrating the ability to listen to others’ ideas and incorporate them into a plan of action. In addition to service projects such as teaching seniors how to use their devices and working with the Walk for Water initiative, Pauline is active in the robotics club, a non-profit organization called “Girls Who Code,” and plays viola in the school orchestra.

Margo Sidline

Margo Sidline - 2019 Student Recipient

Margo is a student at LOHS. She is an outspoken and effective advocate for diversity and tolerance, serving as the secretary of the Diversity and Equity Inclusion Committee. In response to anti-semitic prejudice she experienced herself, she arranged a screening of the highly-acclaimed documentary, Defiant Requiem, which was attended by over 500 parents and students. Serving as the editor-in-chief of the school paper and a student columnist for the Lake Oswego Review has provided her a powerful platform for her advocacy. She was the 2018 recipient of the “Amazing Kid” Award and volunteers as a teacher at Congregation Beth Israel and as a bingo caller at Carman Oaks Senior Living.
